Communication between PC & CPU

Greg PMPSA Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have a new Laptop with only serial port or USB port and I installed Step5. My question is : How connect my new PC with a CPU S5 to communicate correctly ? Thanks for your help.

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 6/8/2023 Posts: 12037 Rating: (2596)	Hello Greg; The programming port of S5 CPUs uses a current loop (TTY)interface, so you need a converter cable such as this one,proposed by Siemens: 6ES5 734-1BD20 and a 9 pin to 25 pin convertor. I have not heard much success from USB to serial cables with this cable, unfortunatey. You clould also look at the offerings from another provider, but I cannot be certain that Step 5 is supporting them 100%: http://www.ibhsoftec-sps.de/english/Selection_Hardware_S5.htm Maybe someone else here has had a chance to use them? Bhaskaran Posts: 107 Rating: (12)	Hi ! Does your PC has Serial and USB port or only USB Port. For a Serial port you can try TTY converter from Horter & Kalb. www.horter.de. It seems they are currently having a USB - RS232 converter which they claim that they have tested with S5 I am using one of those for quite some time now. It's a passive converter and draws the operating voltage from the CPU. It's compact and comfortable to work with. Unfortunately it's does work with Communication processors since you require in this case an active converter. I just looked up at that site and it's all in German. Sorry about that ????

The type of my converter is US232R-10 Is working on XP Prof and Step5 V7.23.
