External Encoder, Profinet vs Drive Cliq

We have 1500T CPU + ET200SP + S120 in our configuration. We have two options for an encoder: 6FX2001-5FN25 or 6FX2001-5FD25-1AA0 I know that there is a difference of resolution between two products. Apart from that, what should we consider when deciding between two encoders? If we use profinet encoder we will read the data directly with IRT, if we use drive cliq encoder CU 320-2 PN will read the data from DriveCliq and we will read that data from CU 320-2 PN with IRT, do you think that would make a difference? ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 10/8/2024 Posts: 22397 Rating: (3016)	hi, startdrive doesn't support external encoder at the moment. you must configure the Encoder as second encoder of a drive object and then use Telegram 106 or other telegram with 2 encoder interfaces. so with TIA and Startdrive i would prever the PROFINET Encoder which can directly interconnect with the technological Object Encoder in the 1500T. I was able to add the second encoder on Startdrive but I wasn't able to add a telegram(81 or 83) for the second encoder, so you were right. But I am wondering, since we cannot add a telegram for the second encoder, what are we supposed to do with the second encoder if we add it this way? Also if we have to use the drive cliq encoder and add it as a "other field object field" with encoder drive object, do you think there would be a delay reading the encoder data with IRT, compared to reading a profidrive encoder with IRT? I don't think I can use a second encoder of an axis as a master for a synchronous axis. For that, we need to define an external encoder technology object and it requests a telegram 81 or 83. In order to add telegram 83 we need to add an encoder object to the CU and add telegram 81/83 as a submodule. So do you think there will be a difference in delays between this method and using a Profinet encoder?

If you use Starter and in TIA a GSDML for CU320-2 then you can use the telegram and configure the encoder in Starter. in all other cases use PN Encoder. There should be not delay between the both configuration, the PN Encoder is more easy to configure like the sinamics Configuration. Regards Christoph

If you use Starter and in TIA a GSDML for CU320-2 then you can use the telegram and configure the encoder in Starter. in all other cases use PN Encoder.
