How to control position of hydraulic cylinder? (TM Posinput + Absolute Encoder SSI)

damianhak Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello, The hydraulic cylinder is controlled by a proportional valve +/-10V. Absolute SSI encoder is connected to TM Posinput as a position feedback. What is the easiest way to control position? Im using TIA V15.0, CPU ET200SP 1510SP-1 PN.

CaOd Platinum Expert Joined: 5/6/2010 Last visit: 3/13/2025 Posts: 2012 Rating: (283)	Hello damianhak, there is not a easy way. My suggestion is you use a PID-controller e.g CONT_C. The necessary position of your cylinder ist the setpoint of the PID and the "real" position the actual value. Then can you parameteriz the P, I and the D-part. The output of the PID-controller is between -100 and 100. These value can you convert to the analog output to your analog valve. If you use only the P-part then you have problems with a hard start or stop or jerking of your cylinder. If you can move your cylinder without any dangerous situations then can you also use the PID_compact and optimize them (so suggest huggy_d1). regards CaOd

I tried to define the axis using block Positioningaxis, but an encoder error exists. MC108: Configuration error encoder connection. Encoder not initialized during rump up. I use BTL5-S174B-M0090-K-SR32 (25 bit, Grey rising) encoder. Configuration TM Posinput: Operation mode: Position input for technology object "Motion Control" Module parameters: attachment Configuration Positioninaxis: Data connection: encoder Encoder: Tm posinput Encoder type: Absolute Encoder telegram: Telegram 83 Measuring system: Linear Bit_in Gx_XIST1: 11 Bit in Gx_XIST2: 9 It is correct configuration? I like your idea with PID-controller, but i have problem with read actual position. I use encoder Balluff BTL5 20μm / 25bit / Gray rising. Tm posinput module is configured as follows: Signal type: Absolute encoder Frame lenght: 25 bit Code type: Gray Transmission rate: 125 kHz Monoflop time: Automatically Parity: None Bit number LSB of the position value: 0 Bit number MSB of the position value: 20 Step per revolution: 1 Reference speed: 3000 It is correct configuration? I try read encoder position via Positioningaxis, but an encoder error exists: MC108: Configuration error encoder connection. Encoder not initialized during rump up. Marko Bursic Platinum Member Joined: 9/8/2009 Last visit: 7/17/2023 Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	The easiest an most straightforward way of positioning the hydraulic cylinder is to use TO_Axis, you can define also TO_external encoder to get a compatible readout for linking it to the TO_Axis. Then you only have to add an inverse spool characteristics in the OB_PostServo and tune the proportional gain which comes when you configure TO_Axis with analog output.
