Arrays are like matrices or vectors.So,you should at least know their dimensions. Do you want to change the dimensions in run time? Best regards, Hamid Hosseini

Manual The ARRAY data type represents a field that consists of a fixed number of components of the same data type. ARRAYs cannot be nested. The field components are addressed by means of an index. The index limits are defined in square brackets during the declaration of the field after the keyword ARRAY. The low limit value must be smaller than or equal to the high limit value. The index value must be entered directly; tags cannot be entered. A field can contain up to six dimensions, the limits of which are specified in each case separated by a comma. Best regards, yy1

Hello again, Try to see how we create a arrays.They are memory areas inside CPU and they should be allocated for this specified purpose(see here for a 2 dimension array). In case of over design it is waste of CPU's resources which may be vacant for some times.Best way to re construct a new feasible solution. Best regards, Hamid Hosseini

The bad thing is that if the user want to use an small value, the big array still there using memory. but this is a simple solution. Regards

0_Einstein Diamond Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 11/8/2024 Posts: 15388 Rating: (2443)	Since a PLC is a dedicated rather than a generic processing device, setting aside a lot of memory is no problem provided the program has memory available to do the required tasks. Find out how much the largest possible array size can be, double that, compile your working program, and see if you have plenty of memory available to load to your plc. Then you can build some logic around treating your array 'upper bounds' as your 'dynamic' array size. Should work just fine. As your project is used over time, you will get a better sense of the max array size used, and maybe even create a retained tag to keep track of the largest array size needed by the user. If this is a program on a PC, wasting memory starves other applications. In the case of a PLC, conserving memory can actually starve the user of the power of that little device.
