How to delete a block from online PLC?

It seems that I'm only able to read and not write.There are only three option (from mouse right click context menu) available: Open, Copy and Properties. How can you remove a block from a online PLC? S7-1500 TIA Portal V12

Unused blocks will be deleted during the download of a PLC or a program-blocks-folder. In the Download preview dialog you can see and select blocks, which will be deleted. Best regards, yy1

Select the "Delete" command from the shortcut menu. The "Delete" dialog opens. Select the "Delete from device" check box. Click "Yes". The block will be deleted from the device online. I did it for S7 300,Try for S7 1500 and update Attachment tia_delete.jpg (1076 Downloads)

I did it for S7 300,Try for S7 1500 and update This works for S7-1200 the same way. I will say it can cause problems if you opt to remove from the project and leave it in the plc. Eventually portal removes it from the plc, but oddly, it can continue running even when it is not in your project. Just pay attention and choose the proper option.

I will say it can cause problems if you opt to remove from the project and leave it in the plc. Eventually portal removes it from the plc, but oddly, it can continue running even when it is not in your project. Just pay attention and choose the proper option. Totally agreed The best way is to have "Equal" and "Same" online and offline projects.A machine when is in "OFF" or "Ready To Work" status has to do some tasks that are vital and deleting blocks may interrupt those tasks.Major overhaul of machines are best time for major changes with "Total Download" to do the job perfect plus equal online and offline back-ups.

What about the need to put the CPU to STOP every download ? Including the newly launched S7-1500... it's unfortunate the mess of Siemens lately !

Why do you want to delete a block online before deleting it in your project? I see one case: if you created a DB within you program, i.e. you don't have it in you project. What is your case?

I see one case: if you created a DB within you program, i.e. you don't have it in you project. What is your case? 1. I have a offline DB with set start values. 2. Offline DB is downloaded. 3. Some set start values need to be changed, I make the changes in the offline DB. 4. "Initialize setpoints" (in DB block view) is the best way to overwrite the online values with the offline values, but somehow it's not available (greyed out). Another way is to delete the online block and download the offline block.
