how to edit and save S5 program with PLC online by using PG.

blazer Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	hi, i request your valuable advices on the following issue. i wanna change one counter setpoint in a program block of my S5 program. currently my S5 PLC is running with EEPROM. I removed the EEPROM from the CPU and connect my Siemens field PG to the CPU. i went online, then select the "test" then "block status", then entered the particular program block and network number. after i edit the counter setpoint, finally one dialogue coming "blocks exists in EEPROM". i press "yes". when i checked the value of counter setpoint, it was not changed, still the same as old and my machine is malfunctioning. please advise me to edit and save the s5 program online with PG.

With EPROMs, you cannot update the block direcectly in the EPROM. You will have to transfer the complete program from the EPROM to PG. Change the block in PG. ERASE the EPROM ( in a UV Eraser ) Transfer The complete program back to EPROM Good Luck Navnag

blazer Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	dear navnag, thank you very much for your kind response. actually i have to change the counter set point in a program block by monitoring the mechanical movement of the machine. for that i should be able to adjust the counter setpoint directly in the CPU without EEPROM. after that i can write the final program to the EEPROM and start the PLC with EEPROM as you said. please advise me how to change the counter setpoint and save online with the PLC.

I mean pl specify whethet it is CPU-100U / 115U etc If the Set Value is stored in a DB then it is possible to change it using Monitor / Modify variables option. If it is coded in any of the PBs / FBs then it depends upon the CPU type You can do online changes in 90U / 95U / 100U as in these CPUs the Program resides in internal RAM as well as ( Optional ) Plug in EPROM/EEPROM. In these cases you can cahnge program in RAM directly by uploading the complete program first and then downloading only the modified block. However in case of 135U if you have an EPROM/EEPROM this is not possible. Hope this helps Regards Navnag

blazer Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	thank you navnag. when i remove the EEPROM form the CPU, now the PLC is running by the program inside the RAM right? i tried to change the values in this condition and it was not possible. i got one suggession that, remove the EEPROM from th CPU, made the memory reset in the CPU, download the program (i have backup in my PG) from PG to CPU. start the CPU then try to change and save the setpoints in PB. wat do u think? will it succeed? is it a right way? I will run the PLC with EEPROM later. the main important thing is to change the setpoint in the program and run my machine properly.

I wonder if you are perhaps not in a position to divulge this information and if so there isanother "trick" you can use: 1.)Go to https://support.automation.siemens.com 2.) Type your CPU part number into the "Self Help" field and click on "Go" 3.) Filter the search results by "Manuals" and donwnload the manual for your S5 CPU In it you will find information about(E)EPROM handling and the other manual worthwhile searching for, downloading and consulting in your case is the STEP 5 programming manual (which will also be on your Step 5 CD and/or already on your harddisk and has a chapter relevant to (E)EPROM burning). I hope this helps
