HOW TO STORE STRING DATA IN MEMORY AREA

poojad Posts: 35 Rating: (1)	Hello experts, i have created a function whose outputs are Error and Temperature resp. Error is havinng data type string and temperature is having data type real. I have stored my real data on a certain memory location directly or by moving the data using MOVE function to certain location. But i want to store string data to a memory location but i am not getting how to do that. I am using PLC s7-1200 DC/DC/RLY update TIA 11 can any one help me to do that. It would be very helpfull for my project.... I am also attaching the snap shot of myFC called in main OB also datablock thanx and regards.... Attachment press.jpg (354 Downloads)

In your function interface, dbname.stringtagname is all that is needed to return the string value from your block output. If there is an easy way to do that with just m memory, I do not use it, and everytime I try to set a string of type m, I get ugly messages and find it so easy to do the db way without any ugly messages.

FringePLC Experienced Member Joined: 11/13/2018 Last visit: 2/23/2023 Posts: 46 Rating: (10)	As a rule, Siemens recommends using optimized DB's for all your data, taking advantage of symbolic access. Personally, I never use the "M" memory area. I will admit though, that the amount of ways to store data in a S7-CPU is impressive. Lastly – and this is important – when using strings, remember to set the size in the datatype, if you only use “String” it takes up 256 bytes(!) of data, e.g. write “String[10]” as type is your string is at most 10 characters long.
