I/O slots and addressing

Hello,

I am new to PLC programming, so keep that in mind.

I am finishing a project where I programmed an S7-1500, and the program I made within TIA portal works very well within Portal while testing, but there is one problem: the lights on the front of the Digital I/O do not flash when I am operating the program. I have not tested the PLC with the outputs hooked up, but I presume that if they aren't flashing, that means the aren't outputting a signal. I think the problem may be that when I was assigning tags, I assumed a convention for the addresses and probably did it wrong, and therefore my program is not operating within the correct address ranges of the I/O card.

I guess what I'm wondering is if someone can explain to me how the address ranges are related to the physical I/O slots on the card, how I know what ranges to use and how I can access the exact I/O slot that I want to use when I actually add the wiring? I want to know the exact address of a particular slot when I look at the front of the PLC.
