IOT2000 connect smart electric meters

Dear Experts,

The application requirement is connect IOT2000 with Smart electric meters via RS485 Modbus RTU, how many nodes can I connect? One meter will send around 10~20 Bytes to IOT2000.

I wonder if the limitation depends on Modbus RTU protocol.

I am not an expert, but I think the number of slaves is at least limited by the protocol.

RTU frame address is 8 bit == 256 slaves, correct?

I read with great interest the IoT forum!

In the above case the limitation comes from RS-485 and the official answer would be max. 32 devices.

In practice, however, it depends on a couple of things, e.g. comm. frequency, distance etc. With new driver chips or using repeaters etc. it might be higher.
