Masterdrive MC motor Direction

John McCaig Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I have a Masterdrive MC with T300 card controlling an unwinder. I need to change the motor direction without just changing the setpoint. I have tried swapping 2-phases at themotor and the drive just will not rotate. I have also tried changing P595 (by first changing P60 to 5 - "drive settings") but when I try to change P60 back to 7 the drive goes into fault (F117) and then defaults P60 back to 5 untill I change P595 back to 0. Can anyone assist please?

Can anyone assist please? Hi, F117 means overspeed in the negative direction. Please can you advise the values in parameters H001 and H002? Sounds like H002 might be set to 0. If you want the machine to turn the same speed in both directions, then make H002 = H001 (but inverted) Then try and change P595 anf hope for the best. Do you have the MS320 (T300) manuals and diagrams? Regards, Graeme

John McCaig Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Greame, H001 and H002 are actually set to the defaults (+120% and -120%). I'm not sure how significant the fault code is because I'm not trying to run the drive when it appears; this comes up when I try to reset P60 to 7. As soon as I change P595 back to 0 then DrivesMon will accept the change to P60 and allows me to acknowledge the fault. Thanks for the help, Regards John

Can you check if there are any other fault codes in the fault buffer. After you have acknowledged the fault, check the following parameters: r947.009 = 117 r947.010 = ? r947.011 = ? etc until 0 The reason is that multiple faults can stack up, there may be another fault causing the drive to interpret an F117, however, only the last fault entering the buffer is displayed. Another thought I had relates to your encoder, and clearly depends on the encoder type, but perhaps switching the order (90degree offset) of the encoder inputs (i.e. Sin/cos). Failing that, are you familiar with tracing? Trace things like the speed setpoint and the speed actual. I understand that the drive is not being asked to move, however, a valid speed setpoint can still be present. Who knows what the actual might be being interpreted as. As you can probably see, the straws are starting to be clutched at, but hopefully these may give you some ideas to start with. Regards, Graeme

John McCaig Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Graeme, We've had some success on this now thanks. Firstly we got over the P60 problem by changing P595 and P596 offline and downloading the parameter set. This still brought up the F117 alarm but at least P60 was now set to 7 and ready for normal operation. We then took your advise of checking the alarm mask and found that bit 7 has high which equated to a Peer-to-Peer error. We're not using P to P so we disabled the offending parameter and the F117 fault cleared (after a power cycle). I have to say I find the manualto bevery misleading in terms of the fault and alarm codes. Thanks for your help. Regards John

I agree wholeheartedly, the manuals are not user friendly at all, fortunately, Siemens have taken this on board in the later generations of manuals. What T300 software are you running (should be printed on the EPROM module pluggged into the T300 card), as you are probably aware, there are several flavours of firmware i.e. Winder (MS320), Angular Synchronism (MS340), Sectional (MS360)& Positioning Control (MS380). The reason I ask is that I would have expected you to be using the MS320 (Winder/Unwinder) version of firmware in which case the F117 is related to the encoder. Only in the MS380 (Positioning) does it relate to CU Communications. I guess its possible to use the positioner in an unwinder, but that would make it unnecessarily difficult. Regards, Graeme

John McCaig Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi Graeme, it is the MS320 we have. We're still having issues with the tension control in the unwinding apllication. Once we start to speed up we're loosing tension, i.e. unwinding too quickly.

Motors/Gearboxes/cards/PLC downloads etc 2/. What made you want to change the motor direction? 3/. Do you have a backup copy of parameter (Including Technology) I would upload the parameters complete+technology and compare them with the originals. For this you will need theDrivemonitor softwareand a cable 9ak1012-1aa00 You can construct a cable yourself by looking in the compendium section on using Drivemonitor-section 5.5.1.2 Parameters by and large do not change without assistance, sometimes its easy to change them inadvertently (We've all done it) Regards, Graeme
