Maximum number of decentralized racks for the different PLCs & ET200

Hello Everyone,

What is the maximum number of ET200 Racks can I have in one station?

I think it is dependent on both communication resources and PLC memory?

For S7-300 , S7-1200 and S7-1500 linked with ET200 M, ET 200 S, ET200MP, Et200sp?

which bus system?
For PROFIBUS normally 126 Slaves can be configured (each ET200 Station is 1 Slave).

For PROFINET you can configure 128 Devices (each ET200 is 1 Device).

For S7-1200 the max. numbers of Devices are resticted, you should look in the technical data of the PLC how many devices/slaves are supported.

CPU internal Profibus Masters mostly can NOT handle 126 DP slaves but much less!

A general valid answer is not possible, is to specific to the used PLC.

1.) you should read what others wrote IBN-Service say nothing of count

2.) each ET200 IM (Interfacemodule) presents 1 Slave or 1 IO-Device, so if the PLC Data 
"max Number of IO-Devices"  say 16 then you can connect exactly 16 ET200 Interfacemodules ,
no matter which and how many I/O Modules plugged after this IM!
The max. Number of connectable I/O is not relevant, because the ET200 is decentral and not central,
the connectable I/O Modules count is sepcified for the Central I/O Modeules which plugged directly
to the central Rack of the PLC.

I can't understand why such a question is asked!

 Is it a real or hypothetical question?

For these type of question you can simply see data sheets. To write an ideal answer, you need someone to get all data sheets for all CPUs S7-300, 1200 & 1500 and tell you how many station each CPU can be linked with!

If you are still in design phase of your project and need a help, you can tell us how many stations you will connect your CPU to and if it's PRofibus or Profinet or mix and then we can tell you the suitable CPU.
