Memory card access in windows XP mode (virtual)

JCortes Regular Member Joined: 3/11/2010 Last visit: 1/20/2023 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I am trying to transfer my program to amemory card from Siemens. However, I can not acces the card. The card is recognized in Windows 7 and Virtual XP. But in the Siemens software I can not select thatpath (E:).

It details how to use it for firmware upgrades as well as copying PLC configuration. I would suggest reading it as it's much more thorough than you can find in a forum response. If you have a firmware update file on the memory card, the plc will ignore everything else on the card. Since you can see the card in windows, and the plc see it, and then overwrites whatever you have loaded, I suggest _carefully_ selecting the plc program file, and removing it. Be careful as it can make your memory card useless... Again, that's why I say read the FAQ.

Normally you can see folders and files in Windows. You can also try an external card reader. But be carefull. Do not format the Siemens-Card with windows!

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	I use a SanDisk 12 in 1 reader that is several years old and it works. Once you share the device under Virtual Win XP, you need to click on Simatic card reader and a list should show up. Mine shows "GENERIC STORAGE DEVICE USB device". I click on that and I see several drives listed. Only the one witht he MMC card is valid and you need to pick the right one - this was trial and error for me. Anyway once you see the device, right click on it and select TRANSFER or PROGRAM mode. Again, the device will only be valid once the MMC card is installed in the device. I have tried using small "USB stick reader / writers" and I have had problems. The one I'm using is a SANDDISK 12 in 1 part number 20-90-03029. It is several years old so I doubt it is still made but I can at least vouch for its performance. Tom

kbouwman Experienced Member Joined: 4/21/2007 Last visit: 7/25/2022 Posts: 39 Rating: (0)	I gather that the other responders are all missing the point that your memory card reader is NOT plugged into a USB port; that it is instead built in to your computer. In this case, like mine, all other software sees the card reader correctly...even with the Siemens card inserted in the drive. The problem, like mine, TIA Portal 10.5 will not see this interal drive, at least not when running under XP mode. I also have an external USB based SD card reader and TIA Portal 10.5 CAN see that; so that is what I use. It has always seemed to me that Siemens programming software is too smart by half. They are always fussing around with things that they needn't spend their time on,reading and writing to an external flash drive but not an internal flash driveand ignoring obvious things like Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit compatibility. This is engineering software that would benefit from large amounts of ram yet it is specifically limited to 32 bit operating systems. Why?
