alindsay81 Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hi all, Can anyone tell me if PID Tuner is worth getting? Will the latest version 6.1 work on a pcs7 5.2SP3 system ? I cant seem to find PID Tuner v5.1 ? Andy.

Depends on what you're tuning - flow rate / temperature / liquid pressure / gas pressure / position / pH / motor speeds / RH Probably the hardest one's I've ever had to tune were gas pressure and pH. Both were highly non-linear processes (surges or pressure or high influx of HF) - something I expect most PID tuners would have choked on. If I read correctly, you are on PCS7 V5.2 ?? I would recommend you instead use your money to upgrade your PCS7 versions.

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	I agree completely with PCS7_id10t. My experience with PID tuners dates back to the mid nineties. So far I have not come across a single customer who is fully satisfied with these self-tuners. The problem is, the parameters are good for a particular process situation but when the situation changes somewhat, these parameters are not good anymore. In fact the self-tuned parameters do more harm than good in these scenarios. My personal opinion is the self tuners need one more level of "intelligence" that inform them of the extraneous process parameters at the time of capturing the tuning parameters. Regards

I understand from what you say that the tuning wont be perfect but OK control is good enough for me at this stage. Temperature control, Level control and Flow control mainly

Actually it comes up with quite decent parameters for loops that are not so stringent. Also, it is a great tool to arrive at "rough" parameters, especially when we have hundreds of loops to tune.
