Preferred Server aquiring

Ikkezelf Posts: 1084 Rating: (72)	Hi there, Is it possible to aquire the preferred server (as is set in a rendundant environment on the client pc's) ? Normally I set the preffered server in the client project by hand. Now I want to retrieve the set preferred server with the use of a tag, c-script or vbs script. Can anyone tell me how to accomplisch this? Thanks in advance.

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi Ikkeezelf, unfortunately I don´t see a way for reading out / setting the preferedserver per script, tag,.... =>I think, itwould be perhaps usefull to suggest this as a new featurefor a future PCS7-version to your PCS7-Promoter/salesman regards, Nemo

You can find a section "preferred server" inside this file! [code] [PreferredServer] PreferredServer1=AD061390PC1 AD061398PC1 AD061390PC1 TRAINRC_PRJ_SERVER1A[/code] which means: [code] [PreferredServer] PreferredServer1=AD061390PC1(computer name of preferred server)AD061398PC1(Master)AD061390PC1(Stby) TRAINRC_PRJ_SERVER1A(symbolic computer name) [/code] Personally I would never change anything in this configuration file, unless it seems possible to change the preferred server name inside the DCF. The DCF is read during runtime startup, so after a change the runtime had to be restarted anyway in order to make the change effective.

Meaning that I would read this file at startup of the client, close it again, leave it alone until next restart. Can this be done without messing up the system? with regards

Is it allowed to make a copy of the .dcf file during startup of my wincc project (i.e. on opening event of the first picture)? If that's allowed I can use the copie of the .dcf file for my purpose.

Well, there are many things in the world, which aren´t explicitely forbidden, but you normally wouldn´t do, e.g. jump from a skyscraper without a bungee-rope/parachute [:D] Couldn´t you copy the file from you central Engineering-station to your client? Or copy the file by a DOS-batch-script before WinCC is starting? I've no idea how the system will react, if it´s trying to access the dcf during you are copying it - certainly no one ever has tested this. good luck, nemo
