Procedure to visualize Wincc project on PC.

Dear Experts.

Good day to all friends.

Working in a ready mix concrete batch plant . I have a problem that at batch plant initially an outside source executed a project to automate the plant and done successfully . The automation project of batch plant was using Fatek PLC with Delta HMI and Wincc runtime project running on PC for recipe and batch history customer wise.

After few months due some power problems we have a breakdown and a broken fatek PLC and PC. We changed the PLC with new one and reprogrammed with the backup available so the batch plant started working. Problem is we don't know how to use Wincc project available with us to visualize on PC and start keeping records of  recipe and customer batch history. All I know is by using Ethernet from Delta HMI to PC. How it was done we don't know ?

Need support to solve this issue by your expert advises.

You had a backup for the Delta PLC program?

Do you have one for the WinCC runtime program?

It would help us answer your question: by examining the file extensions and structure, we could help you determine the version of WinCC that was used to create the program and the type of license that you should recover. It should contain information on the communication channel that was setup between the PC and the PLC,  and tags could also be recovered.

Without such a backup you have to start from scratch...

I suggest that if you do not find this backup on your premises you contact the firm that programmed it and either ask them for a copy or contract them to restore your program on a new PC.

Finally,  for the future, protect your electrical system. At least think about a good UPS...

Thanks for the kind reply.

1. Yes I have backup of Delta HMI and Fatek PLC.

2. Yes I have project file for Wincc flexible 2008. Extension .hmi . Project is created by Wincc Flex

2008. Project file is complete in every respect, tags etc.

3. In connections it shows Modicon MODBUS TCP/IP as communication driver. In parameters it

shows Wincc Flexible Runtime Interface as Ethernet and CPU type ; Premium, Micro.                  

Server : 192.168.1.3 Port: 502 Remote slave address: 255.

One thing I understand is that I have to install Wincc flex runtime 2008 with license on PC .

What else ?

Please guide me for more.

Hello fahim;

The backup you have for the WinCC Flexible contains the program, so you need to download WinCC Flexible 2008 (the only version available now is 2008 SP5) so you can restore the backup; therefore you need a computer ready and formatted to install the software, with one of different versions of Windows 7 or Windows 10; see the attached screenshot from the Compatibility tool, check with the information in the Servidce Pack 5 download link below.

You can download the Trial version from the following link; the trial license is a working version of the software and will work for 14 days after installation, until you install the RT license: then it becomes fully functionnal.

As stated, you can work for 14 days with the trial version without limits, so you can start working with it immediately,  restore your backup and prepare to install your communication link for Modbus TCP. Look at the dedicated chapter on Modicon processors in the following manual for details:

Last, but important; you need to authoprize the software package so it becomes fully functionnal.This can be done at any time during the 14 days of the trial version. If you have any proof of ownership of the software (original USB key or license certificate, for example), Siemens will regenerate the license with a phone call if you start a Support Request (see the link at the top of this page). But you need the proof of ownership, either in your files or in possession of the contractors who programmed and installed this program (ask them...).

This ALM software you can download here will let you see what Siemens licenses exist on your PC, and is the tool Siemens will use to regenerate the missing licenses.

Thanks for the reply.

1.Today I installed Wincc Flexible 2008 in my old laptop having Windows XP Sp3.from the backup .

2. Installed fresh copy of windows XP sp3 on the desktop where I need to see my Wincc project.

Now what ? Do I install Wincc Flex 2008 complete on desktop OR only wincc flex 2008 Runtime only.? Transfer file from my laptop to desktop ?

Fatek PLC was connected via ethernet to desktop previously, do desktop was having some hardware to connect via ethernet ?

Please explain the way to handle all this ?

Although we appreciate the thanks, we cannot remember every technical details on every subject we try to help on.

There is a lot of information on Siemens software (and hardware, of course) that you can access from the forum. By using proper search procedures through the Search box at the top right of this page.you can locate help for most if your needs.
