RF210R+RF160C Programming of the RF160C on PROFIBUS DP

fraros Posts: 4 Rating: (1)	Hello I'm working with a RF200 RFID system composed by an RF210R reader connected to the profibus network by an RF160C. The profibus master is a CP5613. I'm able to communicate with the RF160C but I can't read and write informations on a D421 tag. I saw that the RF200 family readers don't support the INIT command to initialize the tag in a correct way. Does anyone know if the initialization of the tag is mandatory and if yes exist a way supported by RF210R Thanks in advance

Owei Gold Expert Joined: 10/1/2013 Last visit: 5/8/2024 Posts: 605 Rating: (71)	Hi Fraros, the tag doesn't need to be initialized, but the reader itself does (after every power up and error). After shipment all fields on the tag are pre-initialized with the value 16#0 except for the UID (unique identifier) field. Before reading or writing a tag you need to reset the reader (also known as INIT command). Before the reader has been initialized it's LED is blinking green. After the reset command the LED should be steadily shining green, which means it is ready for operation. What kind of software are you using for commissioning the reader?

fraros Posts: 4 Rating: (1)	Thanks a lot for the fast reply. We are using TIA portal V13 SP1. The reset process (command code 0x0) seems ok; at the end the leds of the 2 readers connected are green as you described. The INIT command not supported is that one with code 0x3 (see the document RF160C_BA_201005_en.pdf). Perhaps I'm using a wrong address but I didn't yet find a complete documentation for D421 for the moment I write a word at address 0x0 and I try to read at same address without success. Have you any other Ideas?

Owei Gold Expert Joined: 10/1/2013 Last visit: 5/8/2024 Posts: 605 Rating: (71)	You should just ignore the INIT command. All it does is to fill up the tag storage with a predefined byte value. Your MDS D421 is a 2000 byte FRAM transponder. It's user address space is from address 0 (0000) to 1999 (07CF) = 2000 byte. If reading or writing still isn't working you should submit the telegrams you send to the reader.
