S313 read only problem

burgerfeet Member Joined: 12/23/2021 Last visit: 11/29/2023 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I have an issue trying to modify and/or write new FB's etc to a currently programmed S300-6CF03. The only thing that can be done with the PLC is be able to access the current code and change hardware configurations. I have tried looking through previous topics but to not avail. I am reluctant to just hit delete of FB's, if this is even possible, as the machine is in production. As a background, I am using Step 7 V5.6. No, MMC card and no password protection set. Password option is greyed out. Somebody has suggested that the code is written to an internal EEPROM but the datasheet says it does not contain one. Problem: I can read the FB's etc but cannot overwrite them in the PLC. The software reports 'Cannot copy FBxx'. Cannot even program an extra function block in to PLC either. If I try to send the entire program, it reports out of memory as it is attempting to put the code back in the next available free memory next to original program. I have not come across anything like this before and hope that somebody else has encountered it and can suggest a fix. Many thanks, Andrew

Notice the last part of the description: Micro Memory Card required. The S7Cpus have 2 user memory areas for the program: an internal RAM section called the work memory, where the program is executed by the CPU, and a load memory on the MMC flash EPROM where the programming PC dowloadss and uploads the user program. Without the programmed MMC you cannot access the program functions and upload them to the PC for modification with Step 7. The MMC must already contain the dowloaded program if you plan to do so. You have a copy of the original Step 7 program that you could download to you PLC, if I understand your problem. I do not believe there is an easy solution for you. I have the original program but do not have the MMC, although I have a spare card. One burning question I have is, can we not just reset the PLC and put the original program back in. I am reluctant to do so as I cannot afford to have this machine go down if we are not able to do so. Nearly there! Many thanks, Andrew

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/11/2024 Posts: 12293 Rating: (2691)	Hello Andrrw; If you are confident the software backup you have corresponds to the one on the PLC, then there should be little problem in transfering the program to your MMC. You should never insert or remove the MMC while powered-on so shut down the CPU before inserting it. First does your spare MMC already contain a program for a different PLC ? In that case proceed to a memory reset using the switch on the front of the CPU. This document explains the procedure: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/us/en/view/29801950 Also make sure the size of the MMC is able to hold the program tou want to download. How many bytes does it state on the front of hhe MMC? Then simply download the program to the PLC, it will be loaded to the MMC as part of the process. Hope this helps Daniel Chartier

We attempt to do a reset as per Siemens documentation but didn’t quite go as expected but managed to clear everything. The first thing we tried was to put back the program we pulled out of the plc but found that start switch failed to operate in the programs automatic mode but worked ok in manual. Not a problem, so we thought, as we had the original program. Programmed the plc up with that code and exactly the same happened win terms of the start switch not functioning. Prior to resetting everything I tested the machine to verify that it was all working, no problems there. Looking at the plc config, everything looks good. All peripherals etc working as expect. The problem is compounded further as the code is tags and comments are all in German, so Google lens is being used a lot. The only thing that is different is that if I remove the MMC in terms of configuration, is that the plc does not run and throws a system fault led. Insert the MMC and the program runs albeit with the start button issues. The plc had no MMC inserted when I first approached the machine, code was all in the plc. Would you be able to shed some light on the MMC issues? I feel as though the running error has something to do with this, but am in the dark at the moment. Back on the machine this afternoon.
