S5 and S7 connection

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Ivy, this is not that easy, because you want to connect PROFIBUS (CP5431) from S5 to Ethernet (CP 443-1) on S7. Is it possible to add a CP of Ethernet to the S5 or PROFIBUS to the S7? I am afraid this would be the easiest way to solve this situation. Best regards J_Bell

I have a project now in a cigarette factory, there arenine s5 plc stations at present, due to the s5 is behind the times, thay want toupgrade some of stations to s7, the current network between s5 stations is L2 , if we add some new s7 stations we should put them on the same levelofthe existing s5 stations, I wonder if your clinent/server mode can solve such problem, how do you think of it? J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Ivy, well in this case it can be said that seen from the FMS point of view the S7 can replace the S5. Both systems have the same functionality, especially if you want to do communication between these systems alone. The configuration and parameterization of these systems is slightly different but for my experience is the S7 slightly easier to handle than the S5. You just have to take care of the Index# of the Variables, because the S7 is more restrictive than the S5 was. Both systems can be Server as well as Client at the same time. Best regards J_Bell
