Hello veer; Do you mean Siemens Step 5 software? and which version, the latest is v7.3, to my knowledge. Please study the table in this document: Which version of STEP 5 is compatible with which MS Windows operating system? And you had best start thinking of a VMware installation running a different OS... Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello veer; You have seen the official document from Siemens detailing the versions of Windows that support various versions of Step 5. You saw that in that list v6.65 is not even compatible with Windows 95. Acually, you need a versionn of DOS (the last version I worked with was v6,21) to run Step 5 v6.65. There is very little information on those old versions of Step 5, even on the Siemens Product Support site. I have found one in French, if you cannot understand it just search for the number of references to DOS in the text, you should have an idea of the close relationship between DOS and Step 5 v6.65. https://cache.industry.siemens.com/dl/files/806/9830806/att_31901/v1/STEP5__f.pdf I have extracted a screenshot from the document, it shows the file command structure for Step 5 v6.65, and it shows mostly DOS directories and commands; it also touches on PCP/M, which was the original OS Step 5 was built on. There is a very great possibility that DOS program cannot run correctly under Windows 7. Even f you could get it to install correctly, I doubt it would run in a Command Prompt window and connect to a PLC ; there are no COMx port on your PC, these days, and a DOS software needs special drivers (hard to locate them these days) to install USB communications... There are multiple problems to fix, even with a good VMware setup, before this version of Step 5 runs smoothly.. Hope this helps, |
