Hello webniz; We have done some conversions of S5 systems to S7-400 in 2 phases; the first one involved porting the program to a S7-400 PLC, while retaining the S5 I/O racks; the second phase transfered the S5 I/Os to S7 I/O modules and/or Profibus-DP (when availability and cost of replacement of the S5 units became a problem). The first phase involves some preliminary analysis on our part, and used 2 different S7-400 modules; for the S5 central racks (depending on the rack model) that used a IM 314, we used in the S7-400 centralrack a IM 463-2, that can connect to an S5 vexpansion rack. For racks ewhere the IM 318-C was available, we used either the S7-400 ontegrated DP-master interface or the IM 467 as a Profibus-DP master to collect the I/O data. In both cases the S5 CPU was removed from the process control system of course. You can have more information on the IM 463-2 and IM 467 in the manual S7-400 Automation System module specifications, which you can look at here: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1117740 Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
