S7-200 as slave

Consiliere Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Hello? I am new at this area so i need help... I am trying to connect CPU222 as a modbus slave... I make a program and now i want to connect it on a PC, can I use a RS232/PPI Multi Master Cable which I buy from siemes and now I using it for "putting" a program from PC tp PLC?

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/10/2024 Posts: 12293 Rating: (2691)	Hello Consiliere; If your intent is to use Modbus to download a program to the S7-200, I am afraid you will find that it is not possible. You can only use Modbus to exchange data , in this case with a Modbus master, if there is already a program in the S7-200 that has configured it as a Modbus slave.. To download a program to a S7-200, you need a copy of S7-MicroWin that you will use to generate the program, and you will use the cable you just purchased to allow MicroWin to connect to the PLC and transfer. Please come back to the forum with more details on what you want to do, and how you would like to do it. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

I already make program for PLC (with Step7, using modbus libary), and download it to PLC (using RS232/PPI Multimaster Cable).... Now I want to see if the protocol is working.... so I will try to connect PLC with PC. My question is now: can I use the cable which I used for download program to PLC for modbus connecting PLC and PC . See atachment Attachment comunication.pdf (240 Downloads)

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Consiliere, I see actually no problem seen form the HW point of view but I would like to know what application as MODBUS RTU Master you want to use on PC side, especially as this has to run on RS232 interface? Would you please explain a bit more about it? The Free Port at the CPU, as you use MODBUS with, uses RS485. Best regards J_Bell

Consiliere Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Thanks guys for help, On PC side I will download Modscan software (www.win-tech.com)… /tf/WW/en/Posts/20753#top So, on the PC side I will have RS232 and on PLC side I will have a RS458, I think it will be just like downloading the program from PC to PLC?

I have no idea if the Software you are about to use will work... maybe it does. Ifyou have some experiences with it Iwould like to ask you to sharethese experiences withus here. So, could you please advice me, I have a s7-200 configuring sa modbus slave (RS 485) and i want to try to connect it to PC who must work as master (Port:COM1 - RS232). Which cable must I have to connect it, and which program must I have on my PC to work as master. Thanks in advance

I know that the interface you should use is RS485 and you should have a MODBUS RTU Master Software... of some kind. The program you mentioned might be useful if you have the right interface to use, especially if you just want to try the MODBUS Slave. Maybe you will find some MODBUS RTU Master version as OPC Server this would ease your situation a lot. Sorryfor not being able to help more than that. Best regards J_Bell
