z0de Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi all, First off, I am having trouble querying the PLC to figure out what current values and states are, looked for a little while here on the Support pages but couldn't find anything useful. Are there specific commands to query current states and values that would work through HyperTerminal on a PC? If so, is there a PDF or something with them listed? I'm trying to write a program that query's certain values from the PLC to writes them to a formatted Microsoft Excel file, is this possible or a waste of time? Thanks in advance

See this manual: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1214574 Chapter 13.3 will explain the function. Then you can use Simatic Net (OPC server) to get data out of the CPU into a PC. And Excel might be an OPC client. With Visual Basic you can put data on the right place. I am creating this interface for a client and don't have the Step 7 Software, how am I to import the VB controls if they are not available, is there a Freeware version or purchasable version for the required components. I'm not looking for the entire software suite but just the following Components: - Siemens S7Label Control - Siemens S7Number Control - Siemens_S7WCVB_Button.S7vbBttn - Siemens_S7WCBVB_Slider.S7vbSlid - SIMATIC NET OPC Data Any help is appreciated.

(OPC server included) Depending how you want to communicate, par example using an ethernet card in PC, you can use Softnet S7 for industrial ethernet (when you just want to make less then 8 connections, you can use lean version) (PLC needs ethernet port or separate CP-card.) Or you can use profibus, then you need Softnet S7 for profibus. PLC needs a profibus port and PC needs a CP5611 when using desktop.
