S7 Array, UDT Tag mapping to WinCC

DUTTA Posts: 102 Rating: (1)	Dear Experts, I have created some Datablocks in my S7 program, using UDT and Arrays complex datatype. I want to create Tags from these DBs.I am using AS-OS engineering tool for creating TAGS and WinCC version is 6.2. I can not set S7_m_c attribute to any elements of these dbs. How can I create tags from every elements of these DBs? Please guide me. Dutta.

knetzi Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, mapping members of UDTs and substructures in DBs to WinCC tags by AS-OS-Engineering is not possible afaik. This is plausible especially for the DB substructures, since WinCC supports 1-depth data structures only. An example: The field/member 'foo' of the data block 'bar' in your PLC program 'AS-Name' is represented by a tag 'AS-Name/bar.foo', which is built by a structure type named 'AS-Name/foo' again. If you have substructures in your data block the structure type AS-Name/foo had to incorporate them as well. But WinCC does not support this. I hope this helps.

Can I generate Tags manually in WinCC by creating may be Structer Tags. Is it possible? Or in this situation what is the best idea to do so? Giude me. Dutta

mmckay Bronze Member Joined: 9/21/2006 Last visit: 5/25/2023 Posts: 247 Rating: (60)	Another approach you might investigate is using the Simatic Net OPC server channel instead of the S7 Protocol Suite. The performance is a little lower, and you may need another license for Simatic Net, but the OPC server can map many data structure tags that the current WinCC tag mapper does not support.

chrissss Posts: 12 Rating: (0)	I'm running into the same using WinCC V7.0 and STEP 7 v5.4. Having a DB containing an array of UDT. The FAQ doesn't provide a work around. I wonder how you solved this DUTTA?

hernan_e Posts: 53 Rating: (2)	Another (ugly but working) solution could be copying data within PLC cycle from your array/UDT to another global DB with base types to read/write from WINCC.. PS: Here the "How", and the "What" are mixed unnecesarily and this kind of problems make no only waste time, make software harder to mantain, and then less reliable.Would be great Siemens provide a standar solution for a common situation.
