Servo Motor and Encoder Out of Sync

There are two servo motors controlling the cylinder but only one motor is having a problem with the brake test. Initially, the brake system test always fails. It has been replaced but still it fails. Mechanical checking were also done. Then we replaced the VFD, still same fault. Then we tried to change the encoder attached on the servo motor. But when we tried to run, the motor is now jerking. We are thinking the encoder is now out of sync with its servo and with the other motor. We want to check the value of the encoder online but we can't upload the program from CPU317TF-2 DP. Also can we directly replace the motor 1ph8133-2ff03-2ch1 encoder am22dq f49 with 1ph8133-2ff03-2ca1 am22dq f35? Any recommendation please? Thank you. Regards.

Technology Team Platinum Expert Joined: 10/11/2006 Last visit: 3/21/2023 Posts: 5461 Rating: (735)	Hello, according to the ordering number of the motor, the motor doesn`t have a built in brake, so I assume you are testing an external brake, right? Are you using the SINAMICS safety integrated testing function SBT to test the brake? What are the error codes? When changing the encoder you have to take care of the correct adjustment. The 1PH8 operating instruction manual mention this with a warning in the maintenance chapter. Uncontrolled motor motion as a result of incorrect adjustment Incorrect adjustment of the encoder regarding motor EMF can lead to uncontrolled motion which can cause personal injury and/or material damage. • Only change an encoder and adjust it if you are appropriately qualified to do so. You can use commutation angle adjustment in case the encoder is not adjusted mechanically. See SINAMICS S120 function manual chapter 5.17 for details https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109781535 The difference between the two motors you mentioned is the position of the terminal box. The F.. information are details about the encoder itself. I would try to do the adjustment first. If this doesn`t help I would recommend to get in contact with your local Siemens contact, he can support you getting in contact with service or customer support guys.

We matched the indicator line on the rotating shaft of the encoder to the indicator line in the diameter of the case. We assume that this is the zero position of the encoder. Then we power off the machine, to clear the current values of the PLC registry. Then when we power on and moved all the servo motors at the same time, the jerking sound and motion are gone. We are now running it continuously so we assume that our procedure was somehow correct. Thank you Technology Team. We appreciate your response.
