SF LED Blinking on DO Module

Hi everyone,

I am using safety matrix 6.2 for the fail safe system. I recently observed that when one of the redundant IO module is passivated I found that the Front connector was not sitting properly in the module. After correcting this I acknowledged the driver using safety matrix function. The system showed the modules are working fine now.

However, the SF LED on the DO module keeps on blinking. Diagnostic does not show any error. This is a concern and want to know possible reasons for such behavior of the system.

 There are no errors on the DO module. That is why the SF LED is blinking. To remove the blinking and turn SF LED off the system requires an acknowledgement. This acknowledgment is initiated through safety matrix however the SF LED will not stop blinking.

You can read:

a flashing of the SF-LED in safety mode means a request for depassivation.

It makes me believe you have spare channels on that card. As they are not configured in the matrix, matrix can not reintegrate the channels.

 I understood from the manual,

"The SF LED flashes until you acknowledge passivation following a module fault."

Since Safety Matrix acknowledge driver feature clears the passivation indication in the software but on the hardware the SF LED flashes there must be a way to find out from the program what is the reason. Diagnostics are empty.

I have other modules with spare channels and there is not problem with them when it comes to Safety Matrix acknowledging and getting rid of SF LED flashing.

What is "Behavior after channel fault" setting being set on the card you have problem with?

What is being set on the cards you have no issue with?

 "Behavior after channel fault" is 'Passivate the Channel' for all the IO modules

This must be caused by something specific in your application.  If you save us the XREF->Addresses list we will see if there is channel driver being configured for spare channels or not. Maybe that is causing the issue.

I suggest you contact Siemens Support to make sure you get support you need.

F-DI under Profibus interface module: OK

F-DI under Profinet interface module: SF LED blinking. (each channel was working fine, I was only bothered by the LED blinking. I didn't lose any functionality)

The solution was to include "dummy" channel drivers for unused IO-s, 1 per segment is enough (24xF-DO is divided into 4 segments of six, not 3 segments of eight.)

I had the same issue.
