Simatic s7 failsafe

minipeddy Posts: 64 Rating: (0)	Hi guys. I try to get the grip on the s7 300/400 failsafe system. What is the big difference between a ordinary 300/400 components and failsafe components? I mean, can i a emergency stop be connected directly to the failsafe input module? or is the failsafe system just for ex enviroments ? Do the failsafe system in 300 400 system support CFC and SCL ? ALL information would be great ! Best regards.

But you have to read this input inside a F-block, not in a standard S7 - block. You need at least the software package "distributed safety". minipeddy ...or is the failsafe system just for ex enviroments ? No, failsave and ex are complete different things! RKM Posts: 93 Rating: (13)	Dear friend, As per your question about E-stop being used as fail safe input, yes it is the first and most importent inputin the machine level application to be used as fail safe input.And reson for taking it as a fail safe is incase of any situationwhen emergency is pressed plc should stop its normal program to execute and start executing the emergency shutdown sequence writtenas afailsafe program. In failsafe cpu there are two programs in the cpu .One is normal and Second is fail safe. To start with this much is enough. You can gent more information from the manuals indicated by the experts. Hi minipeddy, if i am not wrong i think Ex envirinment and failsafe is different as Ex system is giving hardware level safety and failsafe system we have to use failsafe -software block in logic to utilise failsafe safety, regards, VP Ex modules are intended to be mounted inside hazardous areaswhere there is possibility for explosion because of the availability of flammable gas in the air, so if a module outputs a tiny spark, the whole place could go down. So Ex modules are certified to produce very little current so that it is not enough to create a spark. Failsafe modules and programming blocks are certified for failsafe operation and that's mainly intended for critical processes where double checking for instruments and output signals is essential.
