Simulate FB that require strings as input?

Iqbad Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have made some function blocks that take strings as input and also sometimes generates strings as output. Now I want to test the function of these FBs. I have connected the input and output to DBs containing the correct signals. I then open the simulator and add a few "insert bit memory" windows that I usually use to manipulate for instandce real values. I can see in the drop down box that the option "string" exists, but I only get invalid type or something similar when I try to enter the address of the string. I have a DB50 that includes all input to my block. I have some strings (STRING[16]) in this DB. The string is 'Harbour' When I look on how input to my FB looks when I have connected it the address is as follows: P#DB50.DBX16.0 Trying to write this in the memory window just causes an error. Writing DB50.DBD 16 finds the first two letters in the string and interprets them as type CHAR. How do I do and write to easily change the input string while simulating? Changing every CHAR takes a lot of time! Best Regards, Eric

Chilly_Garfield Posts: 316 Rating: (37)	Hi Iqbad, I think the easiest way to change strings is with a WinCC flexible Runtime or alternativ WinCC. There you can use string inputboxes to change the string. It's the fastest methode, I think.

Iqbad Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hi, Unfortunately I don't have access to WinCC. Just generally speaking, is it a very stupid idea to try to use strings to send between FBs and place in DBs? I am used to be able to use a string also in IF sentences as in C++, but when I try to do something similar, I can't get my code to work, and also find it impossible to let step7 show me that values of the strings when simulating through the SCL window. I fear that I have to change from comparing strings to instead compare some integers, but this will make the code much less readable. I am trying to have a FB that can get strings from DBs and use them in IF sentences to compare if my machine are in different states, for instance: IF isMachineMode = 'Harbour' THEN ChosenMode := 'HarbourLift' . . There are no errors when I compile but I can't really monitor what happens to see if the the IF sentence goes true or false. And the output that is also a string never shows when I monitor so it does not seem to be writtten to the memory.

Chilly_Garfield Posts: 316 Rating: (37)	If you use SCL you can make a break point in the IF-case and then, if the string is the same the break point will be reached and you will see, the string is the same or not.
