WinCC Unified and Software Controller on different PCs - not working

Dear All,

I am struggling with configuring communication between Open Controller and WinCC Unified on different computers (routing through Windows System) and I am looking for help.

I followed the manuals and still the WinCC Unified PC cannot access the PLC.

Setup:

1. Host:

• TIA Portal v17 update 5
• Network properties: Ethernet – 192.168.0.250

2. Open Controller:

• 6ES7 672-5SC11-0YA0 fw21.9.2
• Network properties: Ethernet 2/SIMATIC RT-VMM Network Adapter – 192.168.73.2
• Network properties: Ethernet 3/Intel(R) I210 Gigabit Network Connection #2 – 192.168.0.20
• PLC: X1 – Profinet onboard_1 – 192.168.1.1
• PLC: System – Runtime communication interface_1 – 192.168.73.1
• Added routing via CMD: “route add 192.168.1.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.73.1 /p”
• Configuration IPv4 Forwarding enabled
• Windows firewall off

3. WinCC Unified PC:

• Windows 10 PRO
• WinCC Unified Runtime PC v17 update 5
• Network properties: Ethernet – 192.168.0.25
• WinCC Unified Runtime PC – 192.168.1.75
• Added routing via CMD: “route add 192.168.1.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.20 /p”
• Added routing via CMD: “route add 192.168.73.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.20 /p”

I can load both Open Controller and WinCC Unified PC from TIA Portal, but I cannot ping Profinet port "Software_PLC" X1 192.168.1.1. I tested all possible PG/PC interfaces with no effect.

Hi Piotr,

I also had problems in the past to connect a WinCC PC Runtime with the Open Controller. At that time I tried to connect via X2 interface of the controller and with the help of Siemens we could clarify that this is not supported (even if the documentation says something else). In my case the solution was with X1 and everything was fine. I don't know if this behavior has already been changed with an update.

As far as I can see, you have configured the X1 interface and then try to use the routing table to find a path through the X2 interface. Why do you not use the connection you have configured? This would make the work easier. Nevertheless in the end you will probably face the same problem that a connection using X2 interface is not possible.

If I were you, I would try the following:

1. Use the configured IP address on the WinCC Unified PC and place a cable to X1 like configured.
2. If this is working, you can try a different subnet on the WinCC Unified PC and a route like you tried, but keep X1 connected.
3. And only if this also is working than you can try X2.

to me it looks like you are using a SIMATIC BusAdapter without RJ45 connector or you forgot to order a SIMATIC BusAdapter.

Based on the manual (page attached), this should be possible. At the moment, I don't have any spare bus adapter to test.

I did not know the documentation you are referring to. It seems that the problem I had last year has been solved. Since Jen_Moderator put your split files in the now attached ZIP file just before you added the manual, it would be nice if you could attach it. Thanks a lot!

Your screenshots show more persistent routes than you mentioned in your first post. Have you tried deleting them? In my opinion they are inconsistent.

EDIT:

I ordered a bus adapter and should receive it next week. Hope it will solve all communication problems.

EDIT2:

The bus adapter fixed everything and now it works. But by looking at the manual, it should be possible to configure it on one port only :)
