Wireless communication with SCALANE series.

ILYAZ Posts: 27 Rating: (1)	Dear All, I want to design a wireless control system for a mobile crane using SCALANCE series modules.I want to control and monitor this crane from S7400 CPU with CP443-1 .This S7 400 CPU is at a distance of 500m from that crane.I donot want to place a 500m long cable upto this crane from my CPU.Secondly the whole crane moves to and fro in a distance of100m. I have studied SCALANE available data but i couldnot findout the distances upto which it can transmitt/recieve data.What is the maximum distanceon whichSCALANCE modules can operate peer to peer inoutdoor.?How many Access points and Client modules will be required ? I can install a separate S7-300 PN CPU on the crane. Please help me out to find a solution. ILYAZ

Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Hi Ilyaz, as far as I know you can reach up to 1000m, if you use special Antennas, but this also depends on the usable Radio Frequencies available. A second point would be that such distances can only be reached if the movement direction and the Controller AP is nearlyin line. This is due to the reason that distance can only be reached if you point the direction of the send energy, furthermore it is mostly depending on yourcountry regulations for wireless transmission energy. Stay calm.

Can you tell me aboutany web link or manual from where i can getinformation about operation of SCALANCE over large distances and requirement of frequencies.I can operate over higher frequencies.Secondly can i interface SCALANCE AP with CP443-1 in step 7. Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Hello Ilyaz, well, to tell you the truth, you will not see SCALANCE W inSTEP 7. For you, as a User, this is only a wire... even if you have no wire. The following Document shows you the most information: SCALANCE W788-1PRO (Access Point), SCALANCE W788-2PRO (Dual Access Point), SCALANCE W788-1RR (Access Point iPCF) SCALANCE W788-2RR (Dual Access Point iPCF) ANT792-8DR (Directional Antenna 2,4 GHz) ANT793-8DR (Directional Antenna 5 GHz) I hope this helps you a bit. Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 11/17/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (318)	Hi Ilyaz, Depending on the antennas you going to use there are several options. - The standard Antenna 35 to 50 meter - The Omni Antenna 40 to 80 meter - The Directional Antenna with different angles 200 to 500 meter (depending on the place where the Access point and the client are placed) A next thing is is there a open way to communicate? If not then there are other possibilitys to communicate with Scalance W over RCOAX, with that open coax cable you can easily go 150 meter away. The best way is to provide a picture with the installation and the places where the equipment could be placed.
