bugs in S7 1200

Maybe you're right in some way, but I still not agree with you. This is PLC for controlling process so I don't think that Siemens will start sales on product with bugs. This is not real. Siemens would not risk. Furthermore they have more that 18 years experience of making PLCs and firmware for them. The best in this way would be to ask real users of S7-1200. If you ask me then I can say that I would take S7-1200 PLC into my new project without any fear.

If something is released on the market, this product already covered and have all necessaries sertifications. Of course in the future this product would be possible to be develop, to be inserted inside more features. But basically this will be the same product. So my opinion is - if this product cover your requirements just use it. Regards Hristo Mihalev

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/18/2024 Posts: 3027 Rating: (1057)	Dear all here's my 2 cents worht on this subject: You can all rest assured that Siemens will have done a proper development and testing effort and that you will be able to make the S7-1200 do what it is supposed to do. So much for the goodnews, as you can also all rest assured that there will be teething issues and "undocumented features" in it(how many remains to be seen) This is unfortunately the the nature of modern technology and developments, if Siemens (or other companies for that matter) would do product testing to a point that they can release an absolutely flawless productwe would still wait for S7 PLC's to be released. What we allneed to bear in mind in this case thoughis that we are not only dealing with a new hardware platform and associated CPU firmwarehere, BUT also with a completley new programming tool called Step7 Basic V10.5 with integrated WinCC basic (and don't be mislead by the V10.5 numbering, I think the marketing team shifted the decimal point one place to many, as this is by its nature a V1.0 release). It's a tough choice to make for Lalit, if hegoes for a proven S7-200 then herisks that the customer will complain that hereceived a superseeded solution. If however Lalit offers a S7-1200 solution, he will have to pay the price of spending some extra engineering hours to make it work and possibly a fewcalls to hotlines (it may all go well too though, you simply won't know until you've done it). Personally - by the way - I'm with IBN-Service on this one. And finally, here's a differentadvise that may convince you not to use an S7-1200: S7-1200's doNOT have STL programming capabilty (only LAD and FBD)!!!! (perhaps worthwhile considering using a real PLC, a small IM151-7 or 8 setup may be what you are looking for).

I wish some one who has used or has been using this product should throw some light on his experience.

Robster Gold Expert Joined: 5/28/2008 Last visit: 10/23/2024 Posts: 1343 Rating: (141)	Hi, I wrote my first project on this product and S7-1200 do, what I want to do :) Maybe if you come from S7-200 you have some problems in programming, because Step7-Basic is more nearly S7-300/400. But after a while it's no more a problem. I can't find any bugs so far. I also think, that Siemens is testing there products very long and intensive before release. If there are "unwritten features", Siemens will find and elemintate them and users will get some service packs. It's the nature of modern technology, like fritz said. So, if your requirements conform using S7-1200 you can use it without qualms. regards

Despite of each product (independently of Siemens of not) could have bugs, in special new products, Siemens has, however, the responsibility to test your products before sell then. I could not find “bugs” until now, however I found many “improvement possibilities”… There are also many news concepts, like just symbolic (or just LAD, FBD) programming that needs time to become natural to old programmers… At this moment, however, the point of view of Mihalev and Cheers are also valid: the main question is if you really need it (for example, if you will use 64 bits float point – that just exist in S7-1200) or not (if you need Profibus interface – that at now does not exist in S7-1200).
