Opening STEP 5 Project

riyazahmad Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear Siemens PLC Experts, I am undbale to open backup copy of STEP 5 project. I tried using S5 for Windows software its opening but I unable to download in PLC as software is in Demo. I have STEP 5 V7.15 installed on XP Operating System. In my backup copy DT, NX file not found. My questions are : 1) Is backup is taken by old version needconversion before opening with new version ? 2) I am new to STEP 5, can anybody give me steps to Opening theproject/file in STEP 5. A: No, it doesn't need You should know, your version of SIEMENS STEP5 can't be run under WIndows XP. It could be run under WinMe, Win98 or under DOS. Your file is OK, I opened it, but the format of file name is incorrect. The STEP5 file should be 8 characters long and be like this @@@@@@St.S5D. @ characters are printable characters. It means, the name of file is only 6 characters long and ends with ST. You should change your file name to this format, in order to open it with STEP5 package. Good luck!

Bhaskaran Posts: 107 Rating: (13)	Hi! It seems somebody has taken enough pain to organise the files without knowing the outcome. OK! In S5 all the file names are 8 charachter long ( you have only 6 character available for naming since rest are reserved characters ) with 3 character extension and they follow a specific format - The important files what you need for the program are - Actual program file - XXXXXXST.S5D Symbol files - XXXXXXZ0.SEQ this is where you edit the IO list - you can alsp open this file with text editor / excel - Symbol files - XXXXXXZ0.INI - generated after doing SEQ -> INI conversion and used by program for displaying symbols. Crossrefernce file - XXXXXXXR.INI

As I am using STEP5 first time, can anybody give the steps (Procedure)to open program (read from backup) and to download in PLC. Open S5 select FILE->PROJECT->SET . you will land in TAB1 PLC this is for going online and offline Tab2 - BLOCKS - select your program file with F3 on the corresponding fields. The ST.S5D file is selected here TAB 3 - SYMBOLS - The Z0.SEQ / Z0.INI files are selected here. Save the settings with F6 and you will be prompted to save the settings . This is where the PJ.INI file comes into play. Once you save the setting you can open the project directly from FILE->PROJECT->LOAD and then select the required PJ.INI file. ESC will always take you back one step. FILE->BLOCKS->DIRECTORY - listing of blocks in PLC or PC depending on your selection FILE->BLOCKS->TRANSFER - Transferring program from PLC to PC / PC to PLC depending on the selection FILE->BLOCKS->COMPARE - Comparing program between PLC and PC / 2 program from the same PC I hope this helps to start with and you can always have help with SHIFT+F8

Once you save the setting you can open the project directly from FILE->PROJECT->LOAD and then select the required PJ.INI file." I am unable to load PJ.INI file. Let me clear my opjective with STEP5 : 1) I have backup program need to view and understand logic. 2) I have backup program need to load in PLC (Which cleared memory for error, Stop Red LED flashing). I successfully loaded backup program using following procedure: First I set ONLINE From FILE-->Project--->SET-->PLC FILE-->Block---> Transfer ---> Program to PLC. My machine started .Is I done right way or short cut ? I don't successed to open (view)the project. Thanks once again for support.

naah Posts: 76 Rating: (8)	Normally, if you save the project settings before exit, next time when you run STEP5 the last saved project will be appeared and you don't need to load it again. Now, you know all necessary for download and ... Good luck!

Sorry for the mistake - As far as I remember the PX.INI was in previous versions used to be called as PJ.INI files - I have worked a lot with the DOS versions of S5 and Programming units. PX.INI file is the same as the PJ.INI file The basic idea with PX.ini file is that all the information regarding the application including the directory path for a particular path is saved in a single confguration file.You have already experienced about the number fo settings you have to make to select the right project. So imagine doing it every time whenever you want to work with S5.
