Problem with booting Filed PG P4

d.zhuravsky Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Device: Simatic Filed PG P4 (Pentium 4-M, 2 GHz, 512 KB RAM, 80 GB HDD), OS MS windows XP SP1, Simatic Manager Ver. 5.2, CFC 6.0 (licenses removed from HDD back to floppy) Initial conditions: Device does not boot properly. When I switch it on, first boot can be nearly normal - GUI is started, but not everithing works, Explorer can report some problems. After rebooting I recive a message "file c:\windows\system32\config\sistem is missing or corrupt" (damaged windows regisrty). After recovery from Recovery CD everithing works normally (all drivers installed normally, all devices in Device Manager are recognized, there are no conflicts). BUT, when I switch PG on next morning - everithing started form the beginning. Also, I observed, that system time next morning is delayed (approx. 12 hours). Also I changed memory module (RAM), but sympthoms stay the same. Is it problem with HDD or BIOS or something else?

d.zhuravsky Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	This is defenetly not virus. I reinstalled Windows several times also with disk formatting. I used only licensed Recovery CDs (I hope they dont contain any viruses :) )

d.zhuravsky Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	I`m sure this is not a virus. Only boot viruses can stay after formatting, but fdisk /mbr helps this case. BIOS settings I can check from second PG (I have two the same type). Actually I already checked and they are equal. Also I compared device drivers in both PGs. Difference was only in Network Card driver. I disabled network adapter in BIOS and reinstalled Windows - it does not help. So, now I do following: after installation of all software I copy registry files (windows\system32\config\.) to another folder and if PG does not boot from HDD, I boot from CD and restore registry manually. After that I can boot from HDD. I think, that if it is hardware problem than it is HDD or IDE controller, but I dont understand why system time also changed? If it is software problem then one of drivers works incorrect.

Right now I reinstalled Windows and Simatic software again and after that made copy of registry, restore point, etc. After that I checked Event Viewer. It shows some error in the driver acpiec.sys Explanation is:"The emmbedded controller (EC) didnt respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry failed transaction if possible". So, I think reason can be DRIVER or BIOS or Controller itself. Tomorrow I will compare driver versions in both PG. Attachment screen.JPG (748 Downloads)

d.zhuravsky Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Hi, again! It seems that problem has been solved. After localization of source of the problem I upgraded BIOS to the latest version and installed new chipset drivers. Today morning PG still alive :).

d.zhuravsky Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Hi, Not everithing is so good. Today I again got the same problem, but conditions were a little bit different, than before. Yesterday I hibernated PG and today morning got the message that hibernation file is corrupted. After rebooting Windows told again that file "windows\system32\config\system" is missing or corrupt. After that I booted PG from CD-ROM and copied registry files from backup. BUT !!! in reality "windows\system32\config\system" was OK! After that I booted normally. I rebooted PG several times normally. It means, that there is something in BIOS code, that can`t initializeEC normally after some time (let say 12 hours) OR there is a problem with hardware. HDD seems to be OK, because after botting from CD I have normal access to it. Also I checked Event Viewer in first PG (which is normal) - it also has the same error messages in the list, but boots and works normally. Any other ideas ?
