Slow Compiles on Field PG

brothersjohn Regular Member Joined: 5/2/2008 Last visit: 9/6/2024 Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	I have a field PG that I am using for programming in Step7. It is a standard field PG as far as I know. From the day we received it, it has been extremely slow. The processor in the laptop is a 2 Gig with 1 Gig RAM. When I compile the Step 7 project it takes up to 4 times longer on the PG than on a computer with half the computing speed and the same amount of RAM running the same version of simantic manager. (v5.4 +SP3 +HF1). I have check all the setting I know of and can not find a reason for the speed slow down. Has anyone less had this problem using Step 7. I have read a few post dealing with Step 5 and speed but none on Step 7. Just for information the PG also has Step 5 on it but it has never been used. thanks.

Please look into the Taskmanager to see which program is using the time... Which viruskiller do you use ? Is the Multiuser on or off, small hamer inthe bar, doubleclick on it to see if it is activated, it will use resources to find the other PCs.

As for task manager the majority of the time the system is idle during compile. As for memory resources S7KAFAPX.exe followed by SQLServer take the largest chunks of memory. So I am stumped.

If not then I recomended to deinstall all the software from Siemens, see the FAQ: How can you completely uninstall STEP 7 including all the software packages? When this is done, then only install STEP7 V5.4 SP3.1 and check if it is better, when not then there is something wrong in Windows XP Professional..... Please use then the restore CD's that coming with the FieldPG....
