Hello krishnakumar; Tibi68 is right, the only way you can setup a ring topology over Profibus is by using OLMs (Optical Link Modules). Have a look at the contents of the following FAQs: How do you set up a redundant optical ring with PROFIBUS OLMs? How do you set the DIP switches on the PROFIBUS OLM in order to achieve a line topology, a star topology or a redundant optical ring? How do you set up a redundant optical ring with two OLMs and what LED display behavior is to be expected? And also studythis manual (look at the chapter on topology): SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS, Optical Link Module, OLM / P11 V4.0, OLM / P12 V4.0, OLM / P22 V4.0, OLM / G11 V4.0, OLM / G12 V4.0, OLM / G22 V4.0, OLM / G12-EEC V4.0, OLM / G11-1300 V4.0 OLM / G12-1300 V4.0, Operating Instructions Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Yes, you definitely cannot loop the last node to the first node in profibus. The OLMs can have a ring as they are not profibus slaves themselves. I created a sketch here that shows how you can run your profibus (both copper and fiber) and where the terminations go. I apologize as my handwriting and art skills are not very good (probably why I gravitated to engineering). The box that shows the terminators, are active terminators. I prefer these for terminations to the switch on a profibus connector. Attachmentprofibus chain.PDF (142 Downloads) |
