Dear Comos Admins, It could be, for whatever reason, that you have the task to update (or move) the CLS in your company. In this scenario, you have a CLS which works with a license file restricted to a USB-Dongle. My first experience about this updating can be seen here, in German. Here you see the steps which I would recommend to do:
--> At very first, please go into the installation folder of your actual (let us say the old one) CLS; there you see the "Data" directory. Please create a copy, a backup of that directory saving it somewhere else. This step is important, could even be kind of critical. By the way: it is a good practice to make regular backups of that directory, once in a while.
--> As soon as you are sure to have saved in a backup the whole files you may need to keep (at best the whole "Data"-directory of the ComosLicenseServer), you may uninstall the old CLS from your machine.
--> Delete by hand the installation folder,
the old and actual one, of your CLS. If this is not allowed by Windows, it is
surely due to the fact that the Windows-Service behind the CLS, the old CLS, is
still there. You can delete it from the dos box (that Windows service), like
this: Type there the following command and press enter... sc delete ComosLSService After that, you will be able to delete the installation directory of your old CLS.
--> So you can get on www.siemens.com/gtac and, after logging yourself in with your WebKey and Password (the one you have entered there before) download the full version of Comos, the latest one can be found there. Make sure to do not get the SP or Update, what you need is the full version.
--> Here you see the path on my HDD, to the CLS, which could help you a bit to find it without having to search for it: ...Comos 10.1 Release 5 von GTAC, 28-1-2016\Software\License Products\ComosLicenseManagement There you should now start/run the Setup.exe as a Windows Administrator, which is important in order to be able to install the Windows service behind the CLS. During the installation, you can click on cancel, when you get questioned about the license file. Do not install the CLS as a FailOver-CLS. At this point in time, if you are moving your CLS, you will surely run the setup.exe on the new machine, on the new Server.
--> After the installation is done, is finished, you should substitute the new "Data" directory of your new CLS, with the old one from your backup.
--> Please run the CLS now, if necessary as a Windows-Admin, turn the traffic light to green. - If you get the traffic light to green, everything is fine. - If it stays red, you should open an IR (and Incident Report) at the same homepage where you have downloaded the Comos full version, which was www.siemens.com/gtac. This happens sometimes, which has usually have various scenarios behind it, so that is it difficult to tell which is the solution here... in most of times, there are issues about the configuration of the operating system, about the network connection. The CLS itself is very stable and reliable. Just in case you have any question, please let this community know about it, we can discuss about that, that is what for the Forum has been setup.
