mahbtt Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	hello all, i have a few questions about the modbus TCP/IP communication. i have tried to check all threads about the subject. but i need to be sure about some of them. CPU will work as a master on the system, and will communicate with ayaskawa MP2300Siec machine controller. the MP2300Siec only supports MODBUS TCP/IP communication. i have STEP 7 V5.5 + SP3 it seems there are 2 possible hardware configurations for this purpose; 1. s7-300 CPU + CP343-1 -- for this configuration, do i need aHardware Dongle or software addition? and all necessary blocks are already available within the step 7 i have? 2. s7-300 CPU with intagred PN --for this configuration, i need a license (2XV9450-1MB02) and MODBUS TCP/IP WIZARD ?and all necessary blocks are already available within the step 7 i have? do i miss any other point that i should know? thank you all for your help.

First of all, is there any other way to communicate s7-300 PLC(PN integrated or not) and a 3rd party device, except using a Open MODBUS license. i am asking this because the delivery time for this licenseexceeds the dead line of our Project.(6-8 weeks delivery time for just a license) and to solve this big problem,is itpossible to get any temporary license until we get the one we ordered? can we use the Demo Version of this license? Second, Modbus TCP Wizard is used for PN integrated CPUs? if a CP card will be used, Modbus TCP Wizard is not necessary? is this true? thank again for your help. best regards.

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/18/2024 Posts: 12294 Rating: (2691)	Hello mahbtt; For the first part of your question, why don't you simply download the demo version of the software, it is fully functional, the main difference is that you will get SF active LEDs while you run the program until you install the license. You can find the demo software in the Downloads section of the IT4Industry site: https://www.industry.siemens.com/services/global/en/it4industry/products/simatic_add_ons/s7_open_modbus_tcp/pages/default_tab.aspx?HTTPS=REDIR For the second part of your question, the same link above contains the following quote: "For the MODBUS blocks for the PN PLCs, thereare the additional options of a Wizard which provides the possibility of a very fast and comfortable configuration." So you have to develop your own configuration for comms over a CP 343-1, refer to the manuals you can also download from the site, and FAQssuch asthis one (search the forum for more references): How do you use the blocks for MODBUS/TCP communication over an Industrial Ethernet CP of S7-300 and S7-400 in STEP 7 Professional V11/V12 (TIA Portal)? And your diagnostic buffer will be flooded with OB 121 requests until the license is installed. I just have never met a client who is comfortable with that situation. They (and their technicians)generally react badly to error LEDS and diagnostic buffers that do not allow other diagnostics than a missing license. It is mostly a matter of client relations.
