Reorganize / Update global DB structure

Saruca Posts: 122 Rating: (1)	Hi everyone, I need to change the structure of a global DB. Let's say I have a global DB that contains 3 variables INT type. I'm using the third one in some FBs and I need to delete the second one because it turns out I won't be using it. Is there anyway of doing this so that the FB keeps track of the initial variable configured? Otherwise I will have to change all the addresses for the variables following the one I'm deleting inside the FBs. Is there a tool that allows updating the structure automatically? I know this is a silly question but I had never thought about it before. Now that I need to do that I realize a tool to do this would be a big time saver. Thanks in advance, Sara

Marko Bursic Platinum Member Joined: 9/8/2009 Last visit: 7/17/2023 Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	Im afraid that is not possible, i had many times the same problem, the only way is to leave the DB entry unused or maybe you can rename it and use latter when you will need to add a variable, data types can be changed as long the length remains equal.

First you generate a source from your FC or FB block choosing Symbolic addressing, and then now change the desired DB, compiling the source will updateyour blocks like keeping all your variables!
