Over 200 miners lost their lives in a Turkish coal mine. I wish they rest in peace and I wish their families all the patience and strength to overcome their losses. Although some might think that safety standards have reached some satisfactory limits, It seems that safety standards and regulations applied by firms still need to be revised not just to save money but also to save souls. I just take the chance to make a small solicitation. For engineers and technicians engineering safety systems, Please read the theory and standards (IEC61508 and IEC61511) before reading the manual and understand the importance and criticality of safety systems in order to save lives. For the excited forum members, I understand that this campaign is a chance for everyone to answer as many questions as possible but please don't answer questions and threads about safety systems if you are not 100% sure or if you don't have experience in engineering such systems. It won't be enough just to extract some phrases from the manual. It might work in other threads but when it comes to safety just remember that someone's life might depend on your quick (maybe wrong" answer. Best regards, H-H

This is a serious issue here. I see people asking "how should I configure my protection device" and others willing to help, but we don't know the background of who is asking and who is answering. In my world of Siprotecs, if a guy doesn't know the basics of protection - we are talking about 6,6 up to 750kV - please don't ask about Siprotec. The firstthing is not how to configure Siprotec, but what to configure. In S7 world is the same: S7 is a controller interacting with big machines and systems and before working on S7, one should know what S7 is dealing with. "I am an VBS expert" - fine, do you know what is behind the monitor in front of you? if not, get up and take a look. About the accident, it is always sad and due to other interests, we may never know what happened.

As seen in the attached document the steps of designing, installing, testing and modifying with all concerned safety precautions. This is implemented as a result of previous accidents so that it eliminates accident occurrences and to be under full control to decrease the severity if occurred.
