SIL 2 ceritifed S7 controller

ss1970 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Dear All Can any one help me to choose S7 controller for SIL2 ceritified systems. Total I/Os will be 150 I/Os . Application is to monitor H2S gas detectors and provide Digital outputs to sounders/beacons. controller require to provide serial communciation (Modbus Slave ) to Allen bradely control logics controller. Also the controller require to provide redundant ethernet communication ( protocol not provided in specifications. in this casethe possible communication from siemens canbe advised )to a System which will be installed in future. Kindly provide a system architecture for this solution.

As working with fail safe systems may be seems to be a little bit difficult than standard systems but in fact, you are one of responsible persons on human lives in case of something wrong happen. For this sake, you should be careful in design, programming, testing, and generally in all project phases. Another important point before answering your question. SIL category should be decided from a certified person who knows the process requirements. To achieve SIL 2 for a system, first you have to ask your customer if all IOs will be fail safe or not. If you have a list of fail safe IOs then use the following manual and look for each type of fail safe modules as per the following sections and look for different applications. It looks like a flow chart that will guide you to select the suitable module, and tell you if you need redundancy or not and connection method as well. SIMATIC Automation System S7-300 ET 200M Distributed I/O Device Fail-safe signal modules Chapter 8 for digital IO modules Chapter 9 for analog input modules In each chapter there is a separite section for each F-IO module with six applications for every module as follows: Application 1: Standard mode Application 2:Standard operation with high availability Application 3:Safety SIL2/ CAT.3 Application 4:Safety SIL2/ CAT.3with high availability Application 5:Safety SIL3/ CAT.4 Application 6:Safety SIL3/ CAT.4 with high availability Hope this helps.

Can u please suggest for CPU model and the required communication modules for the required system architecture. You select the suitable CPU that can handle these IOs and SIL requirements. For S7-300 you have range of fail safe CPUs "Distruibuted Safety" For S7-400 you have range of fail safe CPUs "Distruibuted Safety" For S7-400 you have range of high availability CPUs which can work in "Fail Safe" systems.

Which fail-safe signal modules of the distributed I/O can be combined with which fail-safe controllers? Which hardware and software components are required to set up and operate an F system with SIMATIC S7-300F? i suggest you to read the following threads as well. safety integrity level SIL 1 , SIL2, SIL3 Compatible Hardware
