servo motor brake probelem

sh63 Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	Hi, we have on gantry with three arms(vertical axis).in one of them we exchanged the servo motor.befor installing we checked the brake of motor an was normal.after we turn on machine for first time the brakewas release but when we turn off the machine brake wasnt locked and damage.for looking we checked the brake and we saw that for locking the brake we must connect minus supply around 1V while for normal brake we dont need this.only by cutting the supply(24V) brake is locked.we intall another new motor and again this probelem occured.what is the reason of this? thanks alot

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	HI, Doesn't sound right to me. The brake must fail safe in a power cut situation and yours doesn't. I'd put it on the floor and just connect a 24v supply to test it. If it is truly as you say then send it back to Siemens with a bill for machine repair. I would check your switching circuit carefully. If you are using a solid state device to switch the brake in my experience they fail after a short period. Use a good old fashioned relay.
